The Hopkins Correctional Centre (HCC) provides medium-security accommodation for prisoners with protection requirements. HCC currently has single, double and triple-bed accommodation with an operational capacity of 388 prisoners, including a unit for aged and medically infirm prisoners.

The prison expansion of HCC once completed accommodated 732 prisoners with eight beds for offenders on continued detention. The NSW Police Academy is situated in 40 hectares of undulating land at Goulburn, in the southern highlands of New South Wales, approximately 200 kilometres from Sydney. A driver training complex is located approximately 5km from the main campus and comprises about 80 hectares of land.

The Academy buildings are extensive, consisting of 80 training facilities such as lecture theatres, classrooms, virtual weapons training facility, live fire indoor pistol range, a simulation training venue, and a covered outdoor learning area.

In a publicity statement, VicUrban declared, “The relocation to the Goods Shed North… is a practical example of the Commissions’ commitment to innovation and sustainability in the building and plumbing industry and the preparedness to take a leading role in the sustainable refurbishment of an historical building in an area of urban renewal. “The Goods Shed North is a unique heritage building that naturally creates an exceptional backdrop to the workplace, including high ceilings, clerestory windows, exposed trusses, cast iron heritage columns and exposed brickwork.”

An active chilled beam system provides cooling and ventilation to the bulk of the building and is located throughout the Goods Shed North on both the mezzanine and ground floor levels, ensuring an energy efficient and quiet solution. Hydronic heating via skirting heaters located around the perimeter of the Goods Shed provides for additional heating.

300mm high Solazar wall mounted convectors, powder coated black were supplied by Hurlcon Hydronic Heating for the project.
